Ralph Lauren once said “Style is very personal. It has nothing to do with fashion. Fashion is over quickly; style is forever.”

Maybe it’s this philosophy of style that gives even the craziest trends the staying power to outlast generations and reinvent themselves when least expected.

era: 90’s
trend: chokers

Who would have thought that the thick, beaded chokers of yore would be reborn in 2015 as something simple and versatile? Maybe we won’t be pairing our chokers with bold colored polyester mini dresses and full denim outfits, but they’re back and ready to add a much needed pop to even the most casual ensembles.

Oldies:

1 | Drew Barrymore – Sweet Drew’s girly choker added just enough edge to her soft, frisky look during this 90’s photo shoot.

2 | JLo – In classic JLo fashion, this choker was a bit more glamorous, but still added a dash of sparkle to her simple hair and makeup look.

3 | Kate Moss – Kate Moss’ two-stranded black choker was the perfect addition to the preppy-edgy vibe of this magazine shoot.

Modern:

1 | Ariana Grande – A simple diamond choker like Ari’s can easily dress up your favorite LBD or add a dash of class to a formal gown when paired with a striking up-do.

2 |  Rihanna – Leave it to Rih Rih to throw on a frumpy, oversized sweatshirt and still look like she just walked right off the runway. Mixing nice jewelry with an ultra-casual ensemble can be tricky, but Rihanna was able to pull it off by pairing her thick two-stranded gold choker with some great rings and a pair of fabulous strappy heeled sandals.

3 |  Cara Delevingne – A thick choker like Cara’s may seem intimidating, but it’s more wearable than it appears. It can easily add a classy edge to a white top or dress with a low-cut neckline or give a loose outfit like Cara’s a Grecian goddess vibe.
