Juicing

I have always been obsessed with the idea of juicing daily. I would go to the nearest juicebar, spend $12 on a juice and that was it. I wasn’t consistent because sometimes I just didn’t have the time and I was spending a ton of money on just juice! The idea of buying a juicer crossed my mind but then I just forgot and went right back to my coffee.

The moment 2016 arrived, I realized that I need to get control of my skin because not only am I turning one year older but my skin looks so dragged down and colorless. I then decided, it’s time for a juicer. My birthday arrived and there it was, my sweet boyfriend surprised me with not any juicer but one of the best he could find for non-commercial uses. I immediately went to the store, bought bags of veggies and fruits and began juicing away! Along with my juicer, he bought 6 glass bottles for storing the juice for up to 3 days. I swear, they are amazing.

While experimenting with different types of juice blends, I found one that gives me energy and truly had changed my skin. I have a natural glow and people are joking saying that I’m turning into a carrot! If I can recommend anything about juicing, it’s juice the juicy fruits/veggies first, then your greens, then your juicy fruits/veggies again. The juice helps push through your greens such as kale and spinach. Below, I have made a list of my favorite fruits & veggies to juice and also included the two recipes I swear by. Enjoy & please let me know what you think! ps…the beets will turn everything pink so don’t wear white!


My Favorite Fruits & Veggies to Juice
Carrots
Apples
Cucumbers
Celery
Spinach
Kale
Watercress
Beets
Lemon
Ginger
Cilantro
Blueberry


The Beet

This is my daily go to. It’s simple, taste delicious and gives me tons of energy. The total time for one 17oz juice is about 15 minutes. I typically juice before bed so it’s ready and cold for the morning!

1 beet, peeled
1 small ginger arm, half inch
1 granny smith apple, unpeeled
1 handful blueberries
1 handful watercress
2 handfuls spinach
5 whole carrots, unpeeled, ends cuts
10 stems of cilantro
1 cucumber (optional)


Greens

I tried this one for the first time the other night and it was very good. It is very similar to The Beet but just has more greens. Be careful because kale can cause pulp in your juice. If your juicer has a strainer that sits above the juice bowl, make sure to clean it after juicing the kale and then proceed with your other fruits & veggies. This will allow the juice to fall the clean strainer easier and result in less kale pulp.
